Cancer Equipment Appeal – HIPEC Machine
Your support meant we could purchase the Ion Torrent Genexus & the da Vinci Xi Surgical System – Let’s continue improving Cancer Care in CUH for everyone in Munster.
Wherever and whoever you are, you will want to know that you or your loved ones will receive the best possible standard of medical care should a difficult diagnosis land at your door. CUH Charity are working closely with CUH & CUMH to ensure the best possible care is available and less patients need to travel for further treatment.
Being closer to home is better for the patient & their families.
The ongoing support of fundraising is critical to allow us to continue to develop a cutting-edge Cancer services in the region.
This year, your support will help to bring specialised surgical equipment, called HIPEC, to CUH that will allow advanced procedures to be performed on patients with abdominal malignancies such as colorectal and ovarian cancer.
HIPEC is currently only available in the Mater Hospital, Dublin, so all patients requiring such treatment must first be referred and make several trips up to Dublin. This is onerous and a major inconvenience for them and their families during this extremely stressful time.
HIPEC is a procedure that improves the absorption of chemotherapy for patients with colorectal, appendiceal or ovarian cancers.
During surgery, an automated machine is used which continuously doses the patient’s abdomen with chemotherapy.
We hope you can support this appeal so we can continue to provide the best level of care to our patients, and allow them to stay closer to home during their treatment.
