CUH Charity Ambassador – Peter O’Mahony

In 2019, we were delighted to unveil Munster and Ireland rugby legend, Peter O’Mahony, as our esteemed brand ambassador. Given his popularity and status as a sporting hero on both a national and international level, Peter’s appointment strengthens our ability to assist in the delivery of key projects vital to the Cork and Munster region.

Our Board

The CUH Charity Board includes representation from medical, academic, administrative staff and business people providing a broad range of experience. Together they volunteer their time to ensure that every cent is put to work where it’s needed most.

Tony Long – Secretary

Tony Long had a career in the Health Service. He held various administrative roles from 1973 until 1986. He held the position of  Management Accountant from  1987 until 1991 when he was appointed Finance Manager at Cork University Hospital. In 1994 he was appointed Deputy General Manager. Prior to his retirement in 2010, he also acted as Regional Manager for the southern region with the National Cancer Control programme.

He qualified as an Accountant with the Chartered Institute Of Management Accountants in 1987.

Professor Mark Corrigan – Clinical Lead for Transforming Theatre Programme SSWHG

Mark is a graduate of University College Cork. Following his graduation he completed post graduate training in general surgery through the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, subspecialising in breast cancer. He was a fellow at the Princess Margaret Hospital Toronto before returning to Cork to take up post as consultant surgeon at Cork University Hospital in 2012. Mark has published approximately 100 research articles and his research interests include cancer, medical education, and information technology. He is currently the clinical lead for the transforming theatre programme for the South South West Hospital Group.

Fiona O’Keeffe – Owner OK Tool Hire & Sales

Fiona O’Keeffe recently became a friend of the CUH Charity when she took part in a triathlon to raise funds for Cancer Services in the hospital. Fiona is a breast cancer survivor and having experienced two family members go through the same disease she is committed to using her skills & experience to help the Charity to continue it’s incredible work in advocacy and fundraising.
Fiona holds a degree in Media & French from the University of Ulster as well as a post-graduate diploma in Journalism. She spent a number of years working in newspapers as well as a Communications manager in the public sector. She also worked in the IT sector leading a team within Supply Chain operations.
Fiona runs a business in Cork with her husband, Graham as well as being a mum to two children and in her downtime she loves swimming, boxing and travelling with her family.

Dr Dan Mckenna – Obstetrician-gynecologist

Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Subspecialist in Maternal-Fetal- Medicine in Cork/CUMH since 2006

Katie Bourke – Director of Midwifery CUMH

Qualified as a registered general nurse (RGN) in 1995 in St James Hospital Dublin. Following registration I worked in the NHS for under a year a busy Surgical Ward and A&E in London.
I completed my Higher Diploma in Midwifery in March 1999 in the Coombe Women’s Hospital in Dublin. As a qualified midwife I gained experience in the NNU & Birthing Suite while completing my BSc Midwifery in 2000 in DCU.
I moved to Cork in 2002 to the Unified Maternity Services which later amalgamated the 3 maternity hospitals in Cork to Cork University Maternity Hospital. I developed myself as Clinical Skills Facilitator in the Birthing Suite and completed my MSc in Midwifery in 2013. I then progressed my career working as Midwifery Practice Development Coordinator before I moved into the operational management as ADOM structure in CUMH. Since December 2019 I became Director of Midwifery in CUMH.
