Children’s Hospital Appeal
Munster needs a children’s hospital. It’s needed one for years. And your kindness and compassion can make this dream a reality at CUH.
If you have a sick child, you need help and support too. Too often, families are forced to split: one parent travelling to Dublin with a sick child, while the other remains at home in Munster with other children or work commitments. This is an incredibly difficult time for any family – and even more so for a single parent.
Being treated closer to home makes a profound difference. It allows families to stay together, reduces additional stress and disruption, and enables parents to lean on their local support network when they need it most.
In December 2020, we received confirmation that funding had been approved for a vital phase of a new €60 million children’s hospital in Cork. The development of a dedicated children’s hospital represents a major step forward in the delivery of best‑in‑class paediatric services for the children of Munster and will have a transformative impact on families across the region who rely on these services.
Key components of the hospital include:
- 82 beds, all single en‑suite rooms with dedicated sleeping areas for parents, including specialist disability rooms, high‑dependency rooms, haematology/oncology rooms, and mental health and palliative care facilities
- Six‑bed paediatric assessment unit / ambulatory care space
- Health and social care professional (HSCP) facilities, including a physiotherapy gym and occupational therapy and dietetics spaces
- A new on‑site school
- Four paediatric operating theatres
- A dedicated parents’ room
