Cork Adventurer Sets Off on Journey from Blackrock to Everest Base Camp in Support of CUH Children’s Unit

Daragh Cronin has embarked on an extraordinary new challenge, a solo cycling and climbing expedition from Blackrock, Cork, to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, all in support of the development the Children’s Unit at Cork University Hospital (CUH).

This remarkable journey follows Daragh’s recent achievement of cycling 13,428 km down the length of Africa, from Morocco to South Africa, despite having no previous cycling or camping experience.
“I started as a boy with a dream, and that dream became a reality,” Daragh said before setting off on his next ambitious adventure.

A New Challenge: Cork to Everest Base Camp

Daragh’s latest mission will see him travel across continents entirely under his own power. He plans to pedal as far as physically possible before trekking — with both himself and his bike — to the foot of the world’s highest mountain.

His goal: raise €30,000 for CUH Charity to support paediatric care in CUH.

Inspiring the Next Generation

For Daragh, this journey is about more than distance.

He hopes his story will inspire young people across Munster to believe in their dreams — no matter how big or how impossible they might seem.
“I want to show that the ordinary can achieve the extraordinary,” he said.
