Music has the power to heal.
And at CUH Charity, we want to bring comfort, connection, and healing to patients during their time in hospital.
Volunteers have kindly arranged performances at Christmas, Easter, and St. Patrick's Day. To make those performances possible, the volunteers had to bring an electric piano – difficult to carry in!
But we wanted to bring more music to our patients. And you answered the call.
St. Finbarr's Rehabilitation Unit cares for about 72 patients at any given time. Many are older adults recovering from falls, injuries, or surgeries. Recovery can be long and challenging for these patients. And being away from home brings feelings of isolation.
Now the rehabilitation unit at St. Finbarr's has a piano. Thanks to kind donations, the piano is already having a profound impact on our patients.

Music has the power to uplift and unite. Dr. Padraigin O'Sullivan saw an opportunity to bring joy and connection to the ward. She turned to CUH Charity for help.
And because you have supported us, you were part of this happy development!
The joy the performances brought to patients and staff made it clear: music is truly medicine!
Meet Maureen Lancaster
Maureen was a patient staying in the ward for two weeks when the piano arrived. She asked if she could see it.
Maureen had played the piano since she was six years old… but she hadn't touched one in years.
She sat down and began to play. Emotion overcame her. And as she played, her music drew nurses, doctors and fellow patients. A porter, John, joining in, singing along.
Soon the room was full of joy and music.
The new piano is more than an instrument. It's comfort, creativity, and community. Patients can express themselves, reminisce, and connect with others through song. It could be a quiet moment alone at the piano or a spontaneous singalong… the piano is a therapeutic outlet during a difficult time.
Thank you for bringing joy to St. Finbar's
