Kinder cancer care for children
The day your child is diagnosed with cancer would stand out as the worst day you could imagine
No one wants to think of a child going through cancer treatments. But the outlook is not as bleak for many children as you might imagine. Overall, about 75%
of children are cured for life. Children with leukaemia usually have even better prospects. Yet, the care children with cancer need takes a toll on the entire family. And treatments often require trips to hospital – sometimes quite a distance from home. That’s why we’re so glad to tell you about a new addition to Cork University
Hospital.
This program is called Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nursing (POONS). Rather than bring children in for every single small thing, families can contact one of the two dedicated nurses and receive care for their child at home.
